WEEK 9 TO WEEK 12 - 29/10/2021 - 12/11/2021

Students are to execute the outcome of pre-production process from Task 1 by using relevant programs that enable animation
creation process.

This week, I started modeling because I want to try to rig the characters myself. Then it began a series of hellish problems......

3D MODEL SUSAN
I made the Susan model in Maya based on the character sketch I drew at project 1.

Fig 1 character Susan

During the modeling process, I found that the characters are different from what I drew.
Fig 1.2 Model build look different from sketch

Although not the same, but the result is look like this:

Fig 1.7 Low poly shoes

Fig 1.8 Panda beg
Feedback:
  • Fix the polygon problem
  • Reduce the polygon count
  • The panda beg can moving up and down when walking,so when u rig can add a joint on it

Reflections: There are still many problems such as messy point, ugly nose, and but I have actually built this model for a long time. This is a very challenging task and I will continue to do it if time allows. The most difficult problem I have encountered is the lines of the face. I still need time to figure out how many lines can show the same effect but are low poly.

CHARACTER RIG After the basic model was built, I started to do character rig. When I wanted to bind the skin, I found that Maya would freeze/unresponsive every time. Under the tense time, I first completed the rig.

Fig 2.1 eye control
I found that delete model history is my solution to maya no responding when I bind skin.
So, i try to apply controller on the model:

Fig 2.2 A sad result
Feedback:
  • This is because u do paint skin weight
  • Add 1 joint on waist
  • The joint on waist should't create Ik handle, that why u cannot move
After consult with Mr Kannnan, I do the paint skin weight:, and the model look better but not natural enough yet:

Reflections: Due to the tight schedule, I didn’t continue to use this model to complete the project. It’s a pity for me not using the model that was built by myself, but the problems are too much that I cannot fix them. But I learned a lot and I enjoy the process. I will continue to work hard until I have the ability to complete this model.

NEW MODEL SUSAN
I found a model in the website highend3d introduced by Mr kannnan, and I decided to use it as a new susan model for my project. I revised the model to suit my character design:

Then I start work at face expression and combined them together:

Fig 3.3 scene 2

Fig 3.4 scene 3

Fig 3.5 scene 4

Fig 3.5 Combined video
Feedback:
  • The scene 1 can be more exciting, jump up a little bit
  • scene 4 more shocking, give her a 'relax' movement on body
  • Have to work fastert
Based on Mr Kannan feedback, i have do some revised on it. And this is the revised video:

Reflections: After I met the problem of the previous model, I quickly completed the task this time because I am more familiar with the operation of the model. Thank you Mr. Kannan for not blaming me when my progress is behind others, but for constantly providing help to solve the problem.
