This week, student learnt about the theme of the movie ,style and art direction of Tim Burton. Mr. Martin also asked students to watch the entire film Frankenweenie and Loving Vincent this week. After that, students need to write down and analyze the theme of the movie and the journey of the protagonist.
Mr. Martin gave a brief introduction to the students about this subject and what we are going to do this semester. The student will have been tasked with a few exercises, project 1, project 2, and the final project. He also provided us with insights into the difference between story and plot.

To be honest, this movie is really shocking. It is a film composed of stop motion, and the artist has to manually change the expression of the character in each frame. I think the character design in this movie is one of the advantages, because they all have a strong personality, from clothing to face, each character has its characteristics. Just like the protagonist’s former science teacher, his facial lines show his sharp personality, but at the same time he is also a lonely, incomprehensible Frankenstein. This work helps us understand the basis of Burton's theme and visual style, and this isolated character in the dark world has become a symbol of Byrne. One of the themes of this movie, friendship is well presented in the plot. The friendship between the protagonist and the dog, as well as the friendship between neighbors and other friends, are very empathetic.

I think this is a good movie, I really love it. Imitating Van Gogh's painting style, using oil paintings to create a movie with interweaving memories and reality. In addition, the sense of substitution in the music is great; the performance of the voice actors is also very good. The only weakness I think is that the reason for the excessive dynamics may cause visual pressure. I also think that the shaping of each character is very successful. We can see the painters’ depiction of the character’s character from all aspects. One of the themes I admire most in this movie is life and death. The story begins with a postman’s son searching for the truth after Van Gogh’s death. From the very beginning, why he committed suicide, began the journey of Van Gogh’s life. In the color of the movie, Van Gogh's sad and brilliant life is presented under everyone's memories and opinions. In the end, we did not know the answer to why he committed suicide, but using a sentence from Marguerite Gachet: "You want to know so much about his death, but what do you know of his life?" The film ends in a self-portrait where Van Gogh turned and sat down, an artist full of mystery. I love every frame of them.

This movie is a bit peculiar, like a combination of dream and reality, a weird and surreal movie. But I think it is worthwhile to appreciate its animation production and audio design is very beautiful, especially the difference between dream and reality. But I have to deny that some surreal shots, dazzling animations and lens switching give me a sense of doubt and confusing, but at the same time it gradually opens up the mystery. The ending is intriguing, it’s like when one wave is pushed to its climax, it is suddenly calmed by another wave.

In terms of paintings, my favorite part of this show is its colorful pictures and cute character designs. Like at the beginning, when the little boy was playing in a world of flowers and grass and the sky, the colors here enriched the little boy's imagined world. A smoky pipe made the boy's world dark. There is almost no dialogue in the film, but it is still not confusing, because the film simply uses animation technology to express. The background in the animation, the actions of the characters, and the music are all indispensable. I especially like the movie through the vision of a little boy through villages, big cities, and downtown. The whole journey involves thought-provoking real problems, such as pollution. Flowing lines and rich colors, wonderful plots and surprising music design have made me unable to withdraw from the movie for a long time.

Actually I don't like blood and gore, I really don't like it. But I still watched this movie because it has a good camera movement and plot twist. Just like the first episode, it uses a VR-like robot to fight the screen, and every movement and shot are smooth. The turning point in the ending is also shocking. One of the movie themes, revenge show good in this episode, I saw that the heroine’s self-confidence, intelligence, and bravery led her to successfully kill the enemy.

I played this game a long time ago, and it didn't feel so solid back then. then I didn't play it again， but now I see a lot of improvement in this movie. The visual effects have become more gorgeous, and the character's movement and martial arts movements have become very exciting. I think the world of this movie is well designed, and it can give the audience a clear goal in every shot. The final plot&twist is also very attractive when the country that seem to have failed but fight back. From the perspective of editing, this is also an enjoyable movie.
