WEEK 3 (13/04/2021)

Student have been tasked to
create an audio image and write a storyline for project 1. This audio should create an image for the first- person point of view to be able to visualize on what is going on based on just the audio tracks in 2-3 mins. Below is my storyline:

Storyline :

A story of a housewife is busy in house at a raining day . A woman is cooking dinner in the kitchen. She chopped up onions, and the stove next to her is heating up. When she heard the sound of oil boiling, the woman put onions into the hot oil to fry.

Suddenly a thunder made the baby cry. The woman heard the baby's cry, so she put down the spatula and turned off the stove. She left the kitchen anxiously, opened the door, and the baby's cry became clearer. She picked up the baby and gently patted the baby's back to comfort him.

Another thunder rang, which rang the alarm bell of her car and also caused the neighbor's dog to bark. She held the baby in her hand and walked to a drawer. She opened the drawer, picked up the car key and pressed it. The alarm bell stopped ringing. The baby on her hand gradually stopped crying. The woman put the baby down and walked back to the kitchen. Turning on the stove, there was a noise from the stove, and the oil in the stove needed to be overheated.

WEEK 4 (20/04/2021)

According to the beginning of the story, I searched for a lot of rain base sounds on free sound, as well as thunder sounds of different distances and sound levels. Finally, I chose the most suitable rain base sound to match thunder. The story needs to add thunder to the rain base sound to make the sound sound more layered. Below is my rain sound:

Unfortunately, I found that I had lost the rain file.TT. Fortunately, I saved its wav. File. So I can continue to use this wav file to complete my project.

WEEK 5 (27/04/2021)

I continue to search for the various sounds needed in the story, but in fact I found that not every sound is provided in free sound. So some sounds like picking up Spatula need to be designed by myself. There are about 58 audio files in total, including some audio files that have used reverse effects and other effects.
Audio file
I spent some time studying how to make the audio sound cleaner (because of the interference of rain and thunder), resulting in the first rough draft I only did about 33 seconds. Below is my first attempt:

FEEDBACK:
The lecturer suggested that I can add some ambient in the background, such as the sound of air conditioners, fans, etc. When the character walks or leaves the room, listeners can distinguish sounds from different locations. Everything else is good, just make sure that the subsequent audio that I found is clean.

WEEK 6 (04/05/2021)

I continue to complete the unfinished parts, and the due date is getting closer and closer. From the lecturer class, I learned a lot of new skills, so I get more ways to get the sound I want. This allows me to complete my project more smoothly. Among the many effects, the most I use is reverb, because it allows me to adjust the effect of a sound from one room to another. But in fact, my favorite effect is reverse, because as long as I use this effect, I will always get unexpected sound! Below is my process and final outcome:

Reflections:
In fact, the first difficulty I encountered at the beginning was to find a suitable audio file, such as footsteps. Because most of the offers on FREESOUND are women who wear shoes, have heavier steps, or wear high heels. This is very different from the housewife of barefoot at home in my story. There is also the sound of barefoot provide in FREESOUND but the sound of stepping on different ground such as leaves. Later, I discovered that I can adjust the sound effect by myself. I found a footstep sound that is clean and provides enough room for modification. Then, I used pitch shifter and parametric equalizer to adjust the sound of footsteps to a sound that sounds like running or walking barefoot at home. Finally, using reverb, I chose a room reverb to make every footstep sound at home. Later in the entire project, I used similar applications to get the sound I wanted. In this project, my happiest thing is when I adjust the pan. Because in my story, the protagonist is constantly moving from one place to another, such as from the kitchen to the room. I keep using pan to create the effect of sound from far to near, which is really interesting! From baby crying, Footsteps, thunder and rain, I make changes in different directions. In this project, I enjoy learning and discovering the effects of different functions.
