WEEK 2 TO WEEK 7 - 03/09/2021 - 17/10/2021

Students are to produce and manage an animation project individually by using relevant programs and software that enable content, concept, audio and video design to execute tasks:

• Script writing
• (Storyboard - Characters, props and location design Audio and SFX)
• Building Animatic (Displaying designs, color mood and style – Sound breakdown)

Below is the scene I choose from Hotel Transylvania:

Fig 1 Scene chosen

Fig 1.1 Audio

First draft:
I looked some idea inspiration online and start thinking the design of character. In order to ensure the accuracy of the figure's body shape, I used the figure of Fig 1.2 as references. To Below is my progression on first draft of character:

Fig 1.2 Body shape references

Fig 1.4 Character Susan draft 1
Then I work on Storyboard:

Fig 1.5 Storyboard
Feedback:
  • Character's mouth need to redraw
  • too many dialog
  • try to keep it simple on dialog
  • but story can more dramatic
Reflections: After conculting with Mr Kannan, I think my character design is not good enough, that is, it has no connection with the story and has no personality. Thus, I decide to redesign the character as well as the storyboard.
Second draft:
I think my character design is not strong enough, so I redesign the character again. This time, I refer to the Universal Pictures movie, character Agnes from despicable me and also Disney movie, vanellope from wreak it rahpls.

Fig 2 Vanellope from wreak it rahpls.

Fig 2.1 Agnes (Left) from despicable me
Then I designed the character SUSAN, She is energetic, ative, and childish.  When excited, she like to jump and run, so she type the ball hair that not easy to mess. She has a huge love of sweet and snack, wishing her parents to have a snack shop, so she could has endless snack to eat. She also loves fluffy things, especially panda, she think panda is her fluffy big toy:

Fig 2.2 Revised character design SUSAN!
Since the character design is different, I edit the voice in AU and this the result:

Fig 2.3 Revised voice

Fig 2.4 Revised storyboard version 2 part 1

Fig 2.5 Revised storyboard version 2 part 2

Fig 2.6 Animatic storyboard 2

Feedback:
  • Character ok but the leg can bend a bit when creating the model
  • Story can be more dramatic

  • Fig 2.6 Storyboard by Mr. Kannan
Fig 2.7 Explanation about the human body shape
Reflections: I think Mr Kannan's changes and guidance make the original plot look very interesting and more attractive to the audience. This is because the plot is no longer a mere dialog, but a Well-grounded plot.

Final draft:
I really like the idea advised by Mr. Kannan, so I revised the storyboard again based on the previous comments. Here is the progress:

Fig 3 Final storyboard (version 3)

Fig 3.1 Animatic storyboard 3
Feedback:
  • The ending is so sudden, maybe can add some scene that someone maybe robot response her 'yes'

Below is the animatic that add the ending scene:

Fig 3.2 Animatic storyboard 3 2.0
Feedback:
  • can add the voice speaking got mix and match/welcome to ... when susan walk in the shop
Below is the final animatic that add the voice:

Fig 3.3 Final animatic
Reflections: I am very satisfied with this final animatic. Compared with the first one, it has a beginning and an end in this story. This version more attracts me because it has a storytelling. I don’t have any comments on any changes made by Mr Kannan, because I think these feedbacks are all helping and perfecting this 30s animation.
